It is our belief that every child should participate in marital arts if it is only for the self-confidence they build. Imagine a world of children that are immune to peer pressure and the effects of bullying based on their ability to make their own good choices and decisions based on self-confidence.
Through martial arts children (and adults) learn the amazing skill of perseverance and a non-quit attitude. This skill can only come through self-discipline. Through the structured learning environment of the martial arts students learn this attribute along with the thrill of achievement and success!
In this day and age it is so important for our children to learn skills that will enable them to protect themselves. We offer not only instruction in self-defense in our classes, but also through workshops we host throughout the year on topics such as bully prevention and abduction prevention. It is interesting to note that several studies have shown that children who learn self-defense techniques become more assertive yet less aggressive. They also typically find themselves less in need of defending themselves because the manner in which they carry themselves and their confidence shown makes them a less desirable victim.
Today’s children face many temptations from fast food to Video games that can affect their health and well being. Combine this with the ever shrinking school budgets which have lead to cuts in specialty programs like physical education and you have a recipe for disaster. At ATA Family Martial Arts we tackle these problems head on through the use of stretching, conditioning, aerobic and anaerobic elements in each class. We also add in the teaching of life skills to promote a well-rounded student with the right skills to not only face life’s challenges, but succeed!
